They are at it again! Measuring, hammering, sawing, drilling and working up a sweat to build a garden shed whose sale proceeds will benefit Christians at risk in the Middle East– people whose very lives have been turned upside down in the midst of war and sectarian strife for longer than the past 25 years.
The construction crew led by Doug Greenfield is comprised of men from Masconomo Council 1232 Knights of Columbus, Manchester by the-Sea. Some are more experienced carpenters than others, but they are all committed to assisting a relief effort for the tens of thousands displaced from their homes and relocated to refugee camps.
The October 12th crew included Doug Greenfield, Fred Newton, Ivan Muise, Tom Finn, Rene St Pierre, Dominic Moruzzi, Ed Loughery, Rocco DeFilippis, Dan Carlin, Ray McNulty, Anthony Parco, Ken Leonard, Jeff Mastendino and Father Paul Flammia. Materials were donated generously by the Building Center of Gloucester and Timberline Lumber. They are perennial supporters of this project.
The crew will regroup Saturday morning October 19th Sacred Heart’s rectory lawn, 62 School Street, Manchester.
The Knights of Columbus nationally in the last decade have targeted tens of millions of dollars from The Christians at Risk in the Middle East Fund to aid those who fled from oppression in Iraq, Kurdistan and Syria. From the construction of custom-built garden sheds for residents of Cape Ann in recent years, Masconomo Council 1232 has raised more than $40,000 toward the relief effort.
The garden shed under construction on Sacred Heart’s rectory lawn was ordered by a local resident to help a worthy Knights of Columbus charity aiding Christians in need. Visitation Parish parishioners of Manchester and Essex and all Cape Ann residents who wish to donate to the Knights of Columbus Christians at Risk in the Middle East Fund may do so by contacting Masconomo Council Knights of Columbus Box 189 Manchester by the -Sea, MA 01944
